Fire Damages Longview Residence: Family of six displaced. (Photo) - 01/07/23

LONGVIEW, WA — Longview Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of 23rd Avenue for the report of a residential structure fire around 6:30pm on Saturday evening.  The fire was reported by a neighbor who noticed heavy smoke and flames visible inside the home. Three Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, two Battalion Chiefs and a Medic Unit responded.

On arrival, Longview Fire Department found the home well involved in fire on the alley side.  Firefighters were advised that all occupants had escaped, and firefighters had the fire controlled within ten to fifteen minutes after arrival. Fire personnel remained on scene until 9:00pm performing investigation and verifying complete extinguishment.

While the fire was reported by a neighbor, the occupants stated that their smoke alarms were working and alerted the family, allowing them to escape unharmed.   Longview Fire Department recommends installing smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Test alarms monthly and practice an escape plan with all occupants.

The origin and cause remain under investigation.  The displaced occupants will be staying with family and/or friends and requested Red Cross assistance.

Longview Fire Department and Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue responded to the fire.
