FIRE DAMAGES LONGVIEW RESIDENCE: Family Of Four Displaced. Significant Damage To Contents. (Photo) -07/12/22

LONGVIEW, WA — Longview Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire shortly after 8pm on Monday evening near the intersection of Washington Way and 30th Avenue. The fire was reported by a passerby who noted smoke and flames visible from the front door.  Three Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, a Battalion Chief and a Medic Unit responded.

Longview Battalion Chief Jeff Thompson indicated firefighters found the front door open and the interior of the home engulfed in flames.  Firefighters had the fire controlled within ten minutes.  An individual renting the home arrived and confirmed no family members were in the home but reported one of his dogs missing.  Longview firefighters searched the home and located the pet which was unfortunately deceased.  The Humane Society was requested to assist the occupant with his surviving pets.

While the fire swept through the home quickly due to the open front door and windy conditions, bedrooms behind closed doors were largely unaffected.  For this reason, Longview Fire Department recommends sleeping with bedroom doors closed.  “A closed bedroom door gives you the best chance at survival as it offers a significant barrier to smoke, heat and flame spread,” says Thompson.

The origin and cause remain under investigation.  The displaced occupant will be staying with family and/or friends and declined Red Cross assistance.

Longview Fire Department, Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue and AMR responded to the fire.
