News Release
Linn County Sheriff's Office Investigate Elderly Theft - 01/12/18

Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley reports that on January 11, 2018, his detectives charged Mindy Lynn Port, 32, a resident of Lebanon, with Aggravated Theft in the first degree and Criminal Mistreatment in the first degree after concluding a three month investigation. The investigation came to light when the family of Joyce Ammon, 78, a resident of Albany, reported her retirement account had been depleted of funds.

Deputies learned that Mindy Port, Joyce Ammon's granddaughter, and family had lived with Ammon for about six months to help care for her. Deputies subpoenaed financial records for Ammon and saw over $50,000 had been taken from Ammon's financial accounts during the time the Port family lived with Ammon. Deputies were able to determine Mindy Port was responsible for at least $43,000 of the missing money.

The Investigation is continuing.
