Legacy Health Replaces Oregon Burn Center With New, State-of-the-art Facility - 05/14/26

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Legacy Health replaces Oregon Burn Center with new, state-of-the-art facility

State’s only burn center is part of the Level I trauma care offered at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center

PORTLAND, Ore. (May 14, 2026) — Legacy Health today announced the June 3, 2026, opening of the new Legacy Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to advance specialized burn care across Oregon, southwest Washington and the broader Pacific Northwest.

As the region’s only burn center between Seattle and Sacramento, the new 33,000-square-foot facility expands capacity and introduces advanced technology, rehabilitation resources and healing-centered spaces to support adult and pediatric patients with complex burn injuries. The project represents a significant investment in the future of specialized burn care, including more than $2 million in philanthropic donations from community supporters.

The center includes 16 adaptable patient suites designed to convert to double occupancy within minutes during mass casualty incidents. Rooms feature specialized climate control, advanced critical care monitoring and radiant heat panels designed to maintain optimal healing temperatures for burn patients while maximizing comfort for patients, families and care teams.

Additional features include a highly specialized treatment room for complex burn procedures, an in-unit rehabilitation gym focused on mobility and recovery, a rooftop healing garden and a pediatric recovery play area. Throughout the facility, natural light, restorative spaces and patient-centered design elements were intentionally incorporated to support the physical, emotional and psychological healing journey of burn patients and their families.

“After more than 50 years of service, the Oregon Burn Center has moved into a new, state-of-the-art space at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center that enhances patient care through expanded capacity, advanced technology and a more healing environment for patients and families,” said Bahaa Wanly, president of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. “This investment strengthens Legacy Emanuel’s role as a regional hub for advanced, lifesaving care and reflects our continued commitment to improving access, outcomes and the patient experience across the Pacific Northwest.”

The Legacy Oregon Burn Center provides highly specialized care for patients with severe burns and complex skin injuries and supports patients throughout every stage of recovery, from emergency and surgical care to rehabilitation and long-term follow-up treatment.

“The Legacy Oregon Burn Center supports patients far beyond medical treatment by offering rehabilitation, aftercare and healing spaces designed to support long-term physical and emotional recovery,” said Dr. Nick Eshraghi, medical director of the Oregon Burn Center. “This new facility represents a major step forward in how we care for burn patients across the Pacific Northwest.”

The new facility was intentionally designed to support multidisciplinary collaboration among physicians, nurses, therapists, rehabilitation specialists and support teams who care for burn patients throughout their recovery journey.

Legacy Health has operated the Oregon Burn Center for more than five decades, caring for over 500 patients across the region each year. The new center reflects Legacy’s ongoing commitment to innovation, compassionate care and specialized burn services for all patients.
