Just before 5 p.m. today, Lebanon Fire District responded to a fire involving a grove of trees in the 31000 block of Sandridge Drive near Glaser Road after an unattended agricultural burn pile spread beyond its intended area.
Fire crews arrived on scene within seven minutes of the call and worked quickly to stop the forward movement of the fire, which was contained in 28 minutes. Approximately 1.5 acres burned as a result of the incident.
Lebanon Fire District responded with 15 personnel to contain the fire and prevent further spread. Sandridge Drive was closed for approximately two hours while emergency crews worked to bring the incident under control.
The Linn County Fire Defense Board has not reopened outdoor burning. This incident serves as a clear reminder that fire danger remains a significant threat, even in the fall. Unattended burn piles can quickly spread and threaten surrounding vegetation, property, and public safety.
Residents are reminded to follow all current burn restrictions and avoid any unauthorized burning. Do not assume conditions are safe for burning simply because temperatures have cooled or rain has occurred.
Please help keep our community safe by following current fire restrictions and never leaving a burn pile unattended.
