Lebanon Firefighters responded late Saturday evening to a fire reported in the 100 block of S. Williams Street. A passer-by noticed smoke coming from the residence, called 911 and tried to contact the residents that may be inside. The Incident Commander arrived to find smoke coming from the eves and front door of the residence. The first due Truck company arrived and quickly made access through the front door, but were pulled back due to radically changing fire conditions.

Firefighters reset the blaze by training water streams through a bedroom window and were able to reengage the blaze after the second due engine cut a ventilation hole in the roof. Firefighters, cut holes in the roof area to allow smoke and other hot gases to escape the building which helps with visibility and makes the fire conditions better for victims and helps firefighters to extinguish the fire. Upon extinguishment and ventilation of the blaze, firefighters were able to conduct a primary search of the residence and unfortunately found the family dog which had succumb to the smoke conditions. No residents were home at the time of the blaze and no firefighters were hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Lebanon Fire District responded with 21 Firefighters on 1 Ladder truck, 4 Engines, 1 Rescue, 1 ALS Medic unit, a Rehab unit for firefighters and 2 Chief officers. Lebanon Fire District was assisted by Lebanon Police and Albany Fire Department as well as Pacific Power.
