4/30/26 - LCSO Case 26-2132 - Adult In Custody Awaiting Trial Assaults Deputy (Photo) - 05/01/26

UPDATE: The assault charge in this case has been upgraded and Squires was arraigned today in the Lane County Circuit Court on charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree and Assault on a Public Safety Officer.

 

 
On April 30th, a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Jail was securing single cell doors during dayroom time in a jail housing area. An adult in custody, Reid Michael Squires, 23, of Eugene, unexpectedly began punching the deputy in the face.
 
Squires continued striking the deputy until a nearby adult in custody intervened, stopping the assault until additional deputies arrived. The deputy sustained significant injuries requiring care at an area hospital. She has since been discharged but is still recovering from her injuries. The involved deputy has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience.
 
After additional investigation, Squires was charged with Assault on a Public Safety Officer and Assault in the 4th degree.
 
Squires is in custody awaiting trial on a Eugene Police Department case for the following charges:
- Rape in the 1st Degree
- Three counts of Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree
- Three counts of Sodomy in the 1st Degree
- Three counts of Using Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct

4/30/26 - LCSO Case 26-2139 - Deputies Arrest Cheshire Woman For Assault With A Knife (Photo) - 05/01/26

 
On April 30th at 11 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with a Junction City Police officer to a residence in the 95400 block of Noraton Road, north of Junction City, for a report of an assault. Deputies learned a 62-year-old male had been struck in the head with a knife and was bleeding severely. The suspect, Jeannae Marjorie Mackay, 31, of Cheshire, had run from the scene. Fire personnel responded, and the victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
 
Deputies searched the area for two hours without success until a witness observed Mackay in Junction City. Deputies responded and arrested Mackay without further incident. She was lodged at the Lane County Jail for Assault in the 1st Degree, Burglary in the 1st Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Fall Creek Reservoir is nearly full and Winberry State Park is open – but that doesn’t mean the reservoir is ready for summer! There are multiple water hazards throughout the reservoir. According to one of our Marine Patrol deputies, the reservoir has “a lumberyard of debris floating all over it.”
 
Please use extreme caution if you choose to go boating on Fall Creek Reservoir.

4/28/26 - LCSO Case 26-2090 - Deputies Investigating Severe Injury Crash On Territorial Highway (Photo) - 04/29/26

 
On April 28th at 8 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with fire personnel to a two-vehicle crash on Territorial Highway at Old Lorane Road, involving a 2005 Ford F550 box truck and 2001 Honda moped. The moped rider was severely injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the truck remained on scene.
 
The Lane County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to investigate. Initial evidence showed the truck was driving north on Territorial Highway when it crossed into in the oncoming lane. The truck then collided with a moped travelling south. The roadway was closed while evidence was collected at the scene.
 
This investigation is ongoing. Any potential criminal charges will be forwarded to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.

4/26/26 - LCSO Case 26-1669 - Deputies Arrest Suspect In Jasper Hit-and-run (Photo) - 04/27/26

 
Just before midnight on April 5th, Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with fire personnel to a hit-and-run crash on Jasper Lowell Road at Pengra Road. A motorcycle rider had been struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene. The rider was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
 
Deputies were able to identify the make and model of the suspect vehicle from debris left on scene. They began searching for a possible match.
 
On April 26th, deputies located a matching vehicle at a residence in the 39000 block of Jasper Lowell Road, Fall Creek. The vehicle was partially hidden under a tarp. After additional investigation, deputies determined the vehicle was involved in the crash. They also identified the driver as John Thomas Klinchok, 60, of Fall Creek.
 
Klinchok was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail for Assault in the 1st Degree, Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver to Injured Persons, and Driving While Suspended - Felony.

4/26/26 - LCSO Case 26-1669 - Deputies Arrest Suspect In Jasper Hit-and-run (Photo) - 04/27/26

4/23/26 - LCSO Case 26-1638 - Lane County Sheriff’s Detectives Arrest Eugene Man In Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Investigation (Photo) - 04/23/26

 
On April 4th, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a concerned resident who discovered suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on a television at a local resort cabin.
 
During the course of the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Michael Stephen Beasley, 63, of Eugene.
 
On April 21st, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives, assisted by a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detective with electronic detection K9 Trinity, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 4500 block of Old Dillard Road in Eugene. Numerous electronic devices were seized during the search.
 
On April 23rd, detectives arrested Beasley without incident. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the following charges:
- Ten counts of Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree
- Ten counts of Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the 2nd Degree
- Encouraging Sexual Assault of an Animal
 
This investigation was conducted by the Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which focuses on child exploitation offenses. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.
 
This arrest is part of an ongoing effort by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable members of the community. This investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.

4/21/26 - LCSO Case 26-0867 - Missing Person Located Deceased In Vida Area (Photo) - 04/22/26

 
During the past several weeks, Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue has continued searching the Gate Creek area for 42-year-old Michael Trevor Owen Naughton of Eugene. Naughton was reported missing on February 19th, and his vehicle was located by SAR that night in the Gate Creek area. SAR continued searching, including with search K9s, drones, and resources from numerous partner agencies, including helicopters.
 
Since the initial search, SAR and detectives have also been working closely and sharing information with a private investigator hired by the family of Naughton. Together, they have covered miles of terrain and spent hundreds of hours searching.
 
On April 21st, the private investigator notified the Sheriff’s Office he had located Naughton on an abandoned spur road more than a mile east of his vehicle. The road was littered with downed timber from the Holiday Farm fire. SAR volunteers responded with deputies and spent several hours clearing a trail with chainsaws and conducting the recovery.
 
At this time, there is no indication a crime occurred.
 
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the private investigator who collaborated on this search, as well as the many staff, volunteers, and partner organizations that assisted, and continue to search for those missing in other cases.

4/15/26 - LCSO Case 26-1831 - Pedestrian Struck On Northwest Expressway (Photo) - 04/15/26

UPDATE: The pedestrian has been identified and is still being treated at an area hospital.

On April 15th at about 3 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with fire personnel to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on the Northwest Expressway near North Park Avenue, Eugene. The driver of the vehicle, a Chevrolet Cobalt sedan, contacted emergency services and remained on scene. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
The Lane County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. Initial investigation shows the pedestrian was in the roadway when they were struck by the vehicle. The driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
 
Investigators have been unable to identify the pedestrian at this time. He is described as a white male adult, 35 to 45 years old, with brown hair, brown eyes, and balding ear-length straight hair, with a full beard. He was wearing wire rim glasses, a red long sleeve shirt and green long sleeve shirt, blue pants, and gray slip-on shoes.

4/15/26 - LCSO Case 26-1831 - Pedestrian Struck On Northwest Expressway (Photo) - 04/15/26

4/6/26 - LCSO Case 26-1673 - Deputies Respond To Crash With Fatality On Central Road (Photo) - 04/10/26

UPDATE: The deceased driver was identified as David Anthony King, 67, of Bend.

On April 6th at 11 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with fire personnel to a single-vehicle crash on Central Road near Fleck Road. The involved vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck, left the roadway and overturned in the ditch. The involved driver, who was the sole occupant, appeared to have succumbed to a medical issue while driving, resulting in the crash. The name of the driver is being witheld until next of kin are notified.

4/6/26 - LCSO Case 26-1673 - Deputies Respond To Crash With Fatality On Central Road (Photo) - 04/10/26

UPDATE: The deceased driver was identified as David Anthony King, 67, of Bend.

On April 6th at 11 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with fire personnel to a single-vehicle crash on Central Road near Fleck Road. The involved vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck, left the roadway and overturned in the ditch. The involved driver, who was the sole occupant, appeared to have succumbed to a medical issue while driving, resulting in the crash. On April 9th, Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue personnel and a detective returned to the Hall Road area to continue searching for 63-year-old Jonathan Allen House of Eugene. House was last known to be in the 25600 block of Hall Road, west of Cheshire, in mid-March of 2025.
 
Sheriff’s Search & Rescue volunteers located the remains of House in an area densely overgrown with vegetation. A path was cleared with chainsaws and hand tools to conduct the recovery.
 
At this time, there is no indication a crime occurred.
 
Thanks to the many staff, volunteers, and assisting organizations that spent hundreds of hours on this search, and continue to search for those missing in other cases.
