Lake Oswego School District (LOSD) is announcing the selection of Noah Hurd as the principal of Palisades World Language School, home of the district's elementary language immersion programs. Hurd was appointed to the position of interim principal last spring following the retirement of Lilian Sarlos. After an extensive and competitive recruitment and selection process conducted by a hiring committee comprising school staff, parents, and district administrators, Hurd has been chosen from a pool of over 30 candidates to fill the permanent position.
“Noah Hurd's unwavering dedication to our immersion program is truly invaluable. In his brief tenure at Palisades, he has demonstrated exceptional strengths in establishing robust systems and fostering effective communication, contributing to the development of a thriving and inclusive environment. His instrumental role in welcoming our new Mandarin Chinese program to the district exemplifies his administrative talents and compassionate leadership, and we are immensely fortunate to have him as we continue to expand and enrich our school,” said Dr. Jennifer Schiele, superintendent, LOSD.
With proficiency in Spanish and Jamaican Patois, Hurd brings over 25 years of experience in education and school administration to Palisades. Within LOSD, he has previously served as the interim principal of Westridge Elementary School during the absence of the acting principal and as the assistant principal at Lakeridge High School for the past four years. Before his tenure at LOSD, Hurd dedicated himself to supporting developing English language learners in various capacities within North Clackamas Schools. He further honed his teaching and language skills during his time as an instructor at the American School Foundation in Mexico City, Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, and as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jamaica.
Hurd holds a continuing Administrator License from the University of Portland, an initial Administrator License from Portland State University, a Master of Arts in Education from Columbia University in New York City, and a Bachelor of Arts from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington.
