Lane County Nurse Family Partnership Marks 10 Years of Serving Lane County With Family Celebration - 09/19/22

Eugene, OR—Lane County Nurse Family Partnership (LCNFP) is celebrating 10 years of helping to support first time Lane County parents with a healthy pregnancy outcome, child health and development and economic self-sufficiency. Since it’s inception in 2012, LCNFP has served hundreds of Lane County families, 350 just since 2018.

“While LCNFP is certainly client focused, it’s important that our community understands the broad impact this program has,” said Vice-Chair of the Lane County Board of Commissioners, Laurie Trieger . “By better equipping first time parents in Lane County to be parents, we are increasing the stability of Lane County families and in doing so, creating better outcomes for our community as a whole.”

Studies focused on NFP programs show that communities which implement these programs can see:

• 35% fewer cases of pregnancy-induced hypertension;

• A 79% reduction in preterm delivery among women who smoke;

• Fewer subsequent births on Medicaid;

• 31% reduction in very closely spaced (<6 months) subsequent pregnancies;

• 39% fewer health care encounters for injuries or ingestions in the first two years of life;

• 48% reduction in state-verified reports of child abuse and neglect by child age 15;

• 56% reduction in emergency room visits for accidents and poisoning at age 2;

• 50% reduction in language delays by child age 21 months;

• 67% reduction in behavioral and emotional problems at child age 6.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of LCNFP and acknowledge the tremendous strides made by our clients, LCNFP is hosting a Family Celebration and Graduation Ceremony today, Monday, September 19th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eugene Science Center (2300 Leo Harris Pkwy, Eugene). The event will include games, a raffle, and speakers. Snacks and a lunch will be provided. The event is open to all current LCNFP clients and their family members.

Lane County Nurse Family Partnership is a program within Lane County Family and Child Health, a section of Lane County Public Health.
