News Release
Lane County Public Health Partners with Hospitals to Provide Comprehensive View of COVID-19 Hospitalizations - 08/04/21

Lane County, ORE—To date, Lane County Public Health has only reported hospitalizations due to COVID-19 of Lane County residents. This methodology allows a direct comparison of cases to hospitalizations. Since Lane County serves as a medical hub for a number of Oregon Counties, however,  it does not give an accurate picture of the current COVID-19 situation at our hospitals. For this reason, Lane County Public Health in partnership with PeaceHealth and McKenzie Willamette has decided to provide a daily overview of all COVID-19 hospitalizations, regardless of place residence.

Situational Report:

COVID-19 rates are rising at alarming rates in Lane County and these rates are projected to continue rising well into September and October – if not beyond. Furthermore, we have seen a rapid increase in emergency department volumes across the region as well as significant impacts on inpatient capacity at most hospital settings. With COVID-19 infections on the rise and unusually high patient volumes in hospitals throughout the region, these two converging scenarios have prompted hospitals to adjust protocols to insure patient safety. These include monitoring COVID numbers, bed capacity, and staffing levels by the hour as well as regulating visitor volume.

Current number of all individuals hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Lane County: 49

Current number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU (of the 49): 18

Immunization rate of hospitalized patients: Daily data will be available soon. In the meantime, cumulative data indicates around 93% of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 are unvaccinated.
