News Release

Hendricks Bridge Boat Ramp Will Close January 28-30 - 01/26/21

The Hendricks Bridge boat ramp east of Springfield on Highway 126 will be closed from Thursday, January 28, through Saturday, January 30, for maintenance.

Crews will be placing riprap (typically made up of rock) around the new boat ramp to reduce erosion of the boat ramp during high water.

“Now that the new boat ramp has been in place for a few months, some of the materials have had a chance to settle and compact,” said Lane County Parks Manager Brett Henry. “This is follow-up maintenance that will ensure the new boat ramp is protected from erosion, especially in the winter and spring months.”

The boat ramp was reconstructed last summer with a new alignment to improve the safety and ease of use for boaters. The parking area was also expanded to reduce congestion and increase maneuverability for boat trailers.

The former boat ramp had deteriorated and there was a steep drop-off at the end of the ramp, which could damage boat trailers. The alignment of the boat ramp also created strong currents across the ramp, which made it difficult to launch and retrieve boats.

The improvements last summer were possible thanks to a partnership with the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW).

About Hendricks Bridge:

Hendricks Bridge boat ramp is located on the McKenzie River below Leaburg Dam. It is part of the larger 18-acre Hendricks Bridge Park east of Springfield on Highway 126 (38870 Hendricks Park Road, Springfield). The ramp typically averages 8,000 users per year; however, those numbers have decreased as the ramp has deteriorated.

This section of river is popular with anglers, as well as floaters and paddlers and offers two popular river runs: Leaburg Dam to Hendricks Bridge, and Hendricks Bridge to Hayden Bridge.
