UPDATE: Notification Of Arrest From Kelso Assault On August 21, 2026

On August 21, 2026 at 1604 hours, Kelso Police responded to the 1300 block of South 13th Avenue for a reported shooting in progress. It was initially reported an unknown male shot at the occupant of another motor vehicle then fled the scene in a silver F150 passenger truck. Officers responded and located 72 year old victim, Warren Wakefield, with wounds to his head and chest.
Later that date, members of the public reported the location of the suspect vehicle in South Kelso. Around 2030 hours, Officers arrived and confirmed the vehicle was the one being sought in relation to this event. Officers were able to contact the driver of the suspect vehicle and the passenger who was identified as the suspected shooter, 38 year old Buddy Wakefield, son of 72 year old victim Warren Wakefield.
Buddy Wakefield confessed to shooting his father with a Byrna pepper ball gun then fleeing the area as a passenger in the silver F150 driven by his roomate. Buddy Wakefield was arrested and transported to jail where he was booked for Assault 2 Domestic Violence.
