A multiyear investigation by the Keizer Police Department, with assistance from local and federal law enforcement partners, resulted in the arrest of a Salem man and the recovery of more than $10,000 in suspected stolen merchandise.
The investigation began in February 2025, following a residential burglary involving property damage and threats against a family. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) identified Carlos Dejesus Chale, 27, of Salem, as a suspect, and arrest warrants were subsequently issued.
In 2026, Community Response Unit (CRU) detectives developed additional information linking Chale to suspected drug activity and stolen merchandise in the Salem area. Investigators also identified outstanding arrest warrants associated with cases in multiple counties.
On October 20, 2026, Keizer Police coordinated an operation with assistance from the Salem Police Department's Street Crimes Unit and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Keizer Police personnel from Patrol, CIU, CRU, and the Traffic Safety Unit also participated. Chale was taken into custody, and investigators executed court-authorized search warrants at an apartment and storage unit in Salem.
Investigators recovered more than $10,000 in suspected stolen merchandise, including tools, household appliances, and electronics, many of which were still in their original packaging. A small quantity of suspected illegal drugs was also recovered.
Chale was lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility on multiple outstanding arrest warrants for theft and coercion. The case has also been referred to the Marion County District Attorney's Office for consideration of additional charges of Theft by Receiving and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Detectives continue working to identify victims and return recovered property to its rightful owners.
