During the month of April, the Keizer Police Department deployed extra patrols specifically related to distracted driving awareness month through a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation. Officers issued (50) warnings and (20) citations for distracted driving and various other traffic violations.
Utilizing a grant, the Keizer Police Department will be adding officers to patrol shifts in order to concentrate on seatbelts and proper child restraint from May 20th through June 2nd. Though the focus will be on occupant protection, officers will also educate and may enforce cell phone usage, speeding and other traffic violations.
