On August 2, 2023, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) with the assistance of Oregon State Police (OSP) and Josephine County Public Health & Building Safety, executed a search warrant in the 1000 Block of Grays Creek Road, Grants Pass, regarding an illegal marijuana grow site.
During the execution of the warrant, over 5,700 marijuana plants were seized and destroyed.
The property also had multiple water, electrical and solid waste code violations. These violations could result in the criminal forfeiture of the property. One of the many water violations included a makeshift dam which was built in Grays Creek for the purpose of diverting water for the marijuana plants. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) responded and investigated the water diversion and wildlife concerns.
Pedro Cruz-Ortiz and Alejandrina Ruiz-Garcia were both taken into custody and lodged in the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Manufacturing of Marijuana and Unlawful Appropriation of Water.
At the time of this press release the investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released.
