News Release

Slater Fire Partial Reduction In Evacuation Levels - 09/24/20

INCIDENT DATE AND TIME: September 24, 2020 @ 2:30PM

REPORTING DEPUTY:  Sheriff Dave Daniel

DETAILS:

After coordinating with the Northern Rockies Team 2 Incident Management Team, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office is lifting or downgrading evacuation levels throughout the southern area of the Illinois Valley.

Evacuation status is being lifted for all residents located on the following road systems including secondary roads; Hwy 199 from mileposts 25 to 34 including connecting county roads, the City of Cave Junction, Rockydale Road from US Hwy 199 to Pinecone Drive, Caves Highway from Cave Junction to the west end of Holland Loop Road.

An evacuation level downgrade from a Level 2 “Be Set” to a Level 1 “Be Ready”. All residents living on the north side of Caves Highway from the west end of Holland Loop Road to Grayback Road are included in this downgrade.

An evacuation level downgrade from Level 3 “Go” to Level 2 “Be Set” will also go into effect for residents located along US Highway 199 from milepost 37 to the Oregon State line.  This includes Elk Creek Road and Dwight Creek Road; Takilma Road from 7000 block to 10000 block Takilma Road, including connecting county roads in that area; and Happy Camp Road including connecting county roads to milepost 3.

Although the Level 3 “Go” evacuation status is being decreased for parts of these areas, we would like to remind those residents that you will still be in a Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation area. In the event of a change in fire behavior, you may be asked to evacuate “Go” at a moment’s notice.

A Level 3 “Go” evacuation status remains in effect for ALL residents on Takilma Road from the 10000 block south to the Oregon State line, including residents on Page Creek Road.

Although some evacuations levels are being lifted or reduced, we would like to remind all residents of Josephine County that they should always be prepared. Fires, floods or winter weather could cause us to evacuate our homes, sometimes at a moment’s notice.  Those residents living within all evacuation areas should continue to monitor local news for changes in evacuation status and fire behavior.

If you need information or assistance on developing preparedness plans for you and your household, go to the Rogue Valley Emergency Management web page at www.rvem.org and sign up for Citizen Alert for Josephine County or call (541) 474-5305 for assistance. Additional preparedness and incident information is also available on https://www.facebook.com/josephinecountyEM/.

We would like to thank the residents of the Illinois Valley for their patience and understanding during the Slater and Devil Fire incidents.
