News Release
Testing for COVID-19 at the Josephine County Jail - 05/18/20

INCIDENT DATE AND TIME:        May 18, 2020 / 1:45pm

REPORTING DEPUTY:        Sheriff Dave Daniel

The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office is beginning to open its doors to new and increased intakes.  This will be a methodical and steady process.  The Sheriff’s Office has had numerous conversations with Public Health officials and other regional Sheriff’s Offices to come up with a best practices approach to increasing our jail population.

One of the practices is to test newly arriving Adults in Custody (AIC’s) for COVID-19 so they can be placed in general population areas of the facility more quickly.  This will alleviate a 14 day quarantine process upon a new intakes arrival.

As a result, rumors have spread that there is or are active COVID-19 cases in the Josephine County Jail.  We have no positive cases, signs or symptoms of COVID-19 within the Josephine County Jail.  The testing is merely a procedure to help ensure the safety and health of AIC’s and Deputies within the facility.  Again, the testing will allow the facility to methodically and safely increase our numbers.
