SUSPECT VEHICLE: Green 1996 Dodge Truck

On Thursday September 5, 2019 at 1:32 pm, a Patrol Deputy from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a green Dodge truck on Williams Highway near Jaynes Drive. The truck did not stop and immediately tried to speed away from the Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The truck was traveling at speeds up to 80 miles per hour towards the City of Grants Pass. An attempt to deploy spike strips was unsuccessful and the pursuit was terminated as the suspect vehicle approached the City of Grants Pass.

Officers with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety observed and monitored the suspect vehicle as it travelled on numerous city streets. The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety lost sight of the suspect vehicle as it merged onto Interstate 5 at the 58 interchange. The suspect vehicle traveled northbound on I-5 as Deputies were in place at the Merlin off-ramp with spike strips. The suspect vehicle continued northbound past the Merlin off-ramp at which time the Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the vehicle again. The vehicle sped up to speeds around 95 miles per hour on I-5 until exiting on the Hugo off-ramp.

The suspect vehicle then traveled southbound on Monument Drive as Sheriff’s Deputies continued to pursue it. Two attempts to deploy spike strips on Monument drive were successful as the vehicle continued southbound. The suspect vehicle got back onto I-5 at the Merlin interchange traveling southbound with flat tires. Deputies continued to follow the suspect vehicle at slower speeds as the vehicle took exit 58 into Grants Pass. The suspect came to a stop on 6th Street in the 1900 block. The driver immediately fled from the vehicle on foot. After a short foot chase, the driver was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Deputies with assistance from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.

The driver was identified as Daniel James Jones. Jones was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital for minor injuries and will be lodged at the Josephine County Jail on the above listed charges. The female passenger in the suspect vehicle was identified as Misty Jo Tooker. Tooker was arrested for probation violation.
