UPDATE: Man Arrested in Toddler's Death (Photo) - 08/16/19

EAGLE POINT, Ore. – One person is in custody following an investigation into the death of an Eagle Point toddler.  Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives arrested Russel Brian Darrell Larsen, 25, Thursday on charges related to the death of two-year-old Alivia Rose Allen.

Detectives lodged Larsen in the Jackson County jail on the evening of August 15, 2019.  Charges include first degree manslaughter, first degree assault, and first degree criminal mistreatment.  Bail at lodging was $207,500.

On August 5, 2019, at 3:24 p.m., an Eagle Point Police Department officer was dispatched to a call of CPR in progress at a mobile home park in the 200-block of South Shasta Avenue.  The mother of 2-year-old Alivia had called 911 to report that her daughter was not breathing.

Dispatchers relayed CPR instructions by phone until personnel from Fire District 3 arrived to assume life saving measures.  Alivia was transported by Mercy Flights ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, where she died later that evening.  Eagle Point PD requested assistance with the investigation from JCSO detectives.

An autopsy performed on August 8 by Dr. James Olson, Deputy State Medical Examiner, confirmed Alivia’s death was a homicide.  The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

Detectives learned Larsen had been babysitting Alivia on the day of August 5.  Larsen was in a relationship with Alivia’s mother and had recently moved into the home.

JCSO detectives have been assisted in the investigation by personnel from the Eagle Point Police Department and agencies that make up the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU):  Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.  Anyone with additional information about the case can call the JCSO tip line at (541) 774-8333.

No further information is available for release at this time.  Subsequent media inquiries can be directed to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
