UPDATE: Body of Man Found in Rogue River (Photo) - 03/16/18

UPDATE 3/16/18 at 9:10 am:

The man whose body was found in the Rogue River on Thursday has been identified as Gary Richard Schultz, 64, of Marysville, Washington. Investigators with the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office identified Schultz by fingerprints. They then learned that Schultz was reported missing and possibly suicidal to Marysville Police on March 13, 2018.

A vehicle belonging to Schultz was located in the parking lot at Valley of the Rogue State Park. Deputies estimate Schultz was in the water for only a short time before his body was spotted by a citizen.

Schultz's family has been notified of his death. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.


Original release - March 15, 2018, at 4:03 p.m.:

GOLD HILL, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating the death of a man whose body was found floating in the Rogue River on Thursday. On March 15, 2018, at 11:58 a.m., dispatch received a call from a citizen who reported seeing a human body floating near Valley of the Rogue State Park, between Foots Creek and Birdseye Creek.

JCSO marine patrol personnel launched a boat to complete the recovery, with assistance from JCSO search and rescue (SAR) divers. Additional SAR teams and Rogue River Fire District #1 personnel assisted from the ground.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office will complete an investigation to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigators will also work to confirm the decedent's identity and to ensure next-of-kin notification. Further information will be released at a later time.
