Hoodland Fire Responds to Incident at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl
Government Camp, OR – Hoodland Fire District responded earlier today to an incident at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl East involving a chairlift maintenance basket.
At approximately 9:35 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched after reports that a maintenance basket associated with a chairlift had fallen into steep and difficult terrain.
Firefighters and paramedics accessed the scene and located two patients, initiating rescue and medical operations under challenging conditions. Due to the remote location, crews hiked into the area to reach the patients. American Medical Response’s (AMR) Reach and Treat Team was instrumental in making access and providing patient care in the difficult terrain. Additional equipment, including ATVs and air medical resources, was utilized to support operations.
This incident involved Ski Bowl employees. According to information released by partner agencies, one individual died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident, and a second individual was transported by air to a local hospital for treatment.
Agencies assisting included Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response (AMR) Reach and Treat Team, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Forest Service, Life Flight air medical services, and Mt. Hood Ski Bowl personnel.
“This was a complex and challenging incident in difficult terrain,” said Hoodland Fire officials. “We appreciate the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies and extend our thoughts to those impacted.”
The incident has been turned over to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be notified.
