News Release
Firefighters Battle House Fire in Welches - 08/11/19 - 08/11/19

About 6:15 a.m. this morning, multiple calls to 911 came in regarding a fully engulfed house in the 27000 block of E. Elk Park Road located in Welches.

Firefighters from Hoodland Fire District #74 while enroute, could see a large column of smoke coming from the vicinity of the reported fire. The Fire Chief immediately upgraded the fire to a second alarm to ensure adequate resources were sent to the scene.

When the crew arrived, they found a house 50% engulfed in flames with an 26 foot travel trailer and a car directly adjacent starting to catch fire . Firefighters immediately began aggressive fire attack methods as additional resources arrived on scene.

Due to the rural location and limited fire hydrants, water had to be shuttled to the scene by multiple water tenders, which also required temporarily closing Elk Park Road to prevent any delay in operations.

Firefighters battled the fire for approximately 4 hours.  Crews were able to keep the fire contained to the one house and damage to travel trailer and car.

The property owner and their dog escaped the burning house without injury. One firefighter did received an minor injury and there was no need for them to be transported to the hospital.

An fire investigator remained on scene; the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Hoodland Fire District #74 was assisted by Sandy Fire District, Estacada Fire District and Clackamas Fire District.
