Annual Fundraiser for High Desert Museum Supports Exhibitions, Wildlife Care, and Educational Programs
BEND, OR—Tickets are now available for Central Oregon's longest-running charitable gala, High Desert Rendezvous, returning for its 37th year on Saturday, August 22. The annual celebration welcomes supporters for an evening of connection, philanthropy, and unforgettable High Desert experiences. An individual ticket for Rendezvous is $200 for members and $250 for nonmembers. Tables of eight or 10 are available for sponsorship. Tickets are available at highdesertmuseum.org/support/give/hdr/.
“We are excited to gather with our friends and supporters for an evening that reflects the spirit of the Museum and the community that makes our work possible,” said Museum Executive Director Dana Whitelaw, Ph.D. “Rendezvous is an opportunity to celebrate what we have accomplished together and to invest in the Museum’s future.”
The evening begins as guests stroll the Museum's entry path, where animal ambassadors, including hawks, beavers, and desert tortoises, offer a memorable welcome. Guests will enjoy hosted beverages, passed appetizers, interactive experiences, and encounters with living history interpreters before gathering beneath the event tent for dinner, where an action-packed live auction and music help complete the festive evening.
This year, the Museum will once again offer a raffle, giving one lucky supporter the opportunity to name the Museum's juvenile porcupine. The female porcupine came to the Museum in fall 2025 and is now thriving in the Museum’s care. She can often be seen in the porcupine habitat or during daily wildlife encounters. Raffle tickets are $50 each and available online at highdesertmuseum.org/hdr.
Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on artwork featured in Art in the West, a juried exhibition and silent auction which recently opened on July 18. A gallery guide of the artwork from Art in the West is available on the Museum’s website at highdesertmuseum.org/whats-on/exhibitions/aiw.
The 2026 Rendezvous Honoree is the Swindells Family, recognized for a distinguished legacy of philanthropy, civic leadership, and a longstanding commitment to Oregon communities. For generations, the family has supported education, cultural institutions, environmental stewardship, and community well-being throughout the state. The Swindells’ investment in organizations like the High Desert Museum helps ensure that cultural and educational experiences continue to inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and strengthen communities for years to come.
High Desert Rendezvous is the Museum’s largest annual fundraiser, welcoming more than 300 guests each year. In 2025, the gala raised a record-breaking $700,000 in support of the Museum’s mission-driven work. Proceeds support world-class exhibitions, educational programs serving thousands of students each year, and the expert care of more than 100 animals that call the Museum home.
