Fire In Hood River County -08/19/18

HOOD RIVER, ORE - On Saturday August 18, at about 11:44pm a fire was reported near the residence of 4120 Westcliff Dr in Hood River.  First responders found that one residence was burning and fire was burning in the timber and brush around the house.  Crews quickly began to evacuate one nearby residence and a hotel, The Westcliff Lodge.  Westcliff Lodge was at full capacity with 57 rooms occupied and an estimated 120 people.  Evacuees were sent to a nearby Walmart.  No citizens were injured.  One first responder suffered a leg injury and is being treated at a local hospital.

The size of the fire is still undetermined due to steep cliffs that drop down to the Columbia River.  The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.  When the area has been safe, occupants of the hotel and residents will be allowed to return.
