On 6/14/23 at approximately 3:46 PM, Hillsboro Police officers responded to a crash involving a Hillsboro School District school bus and a motorcycle in the intersection of E Main St and NE 55th Ave.

MetroWest personnel arrived on scene and attempted life-saving measures on the motorcyclist, but the motorcyclist died of his injuries at the scene.

The 72-year-old school bus driver and the 11 students on the bus were not injured. The bus driver is cooperating with the investigation.

Officers learned the motorcyclist was traveling west on E Main St and collided with the school bus which was turning onto E Main St from NE 55th Ave.

The motorcyclist was identified as 23-year-old Cordell Dylan Tate, and speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Investigators with the Washington County Sheriff's Office Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to investigate the crash.

CART is a multi-agency team of specially trained law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office and the Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, and Tualatin Police Departments. The Washington County District Attorney's Office also has assigned Deputy District Attorneys to the team.
