Hillsboro Police Arrest Suspect After Attempting To Run Over An Officer Causing A Pursuit Which Was Ended With A PIT Manuever. (Photo) -12/20/21
On 12-18-21 at about 3:32 am a Hillsboro patrol officer using the LoJack tracking system in his patrol vehicle located a stolen vehicle in an apartment complex at 951 SE 13th Ave. Hillsboro. As the officer was walking up to check on the car, the officer discovered it was occupied by the driver (who was identified as 28-year old Travis Johnson). Mr. Johnson backed his vehicle up and struck the officer's patrol car in an effort to escape.
Mr. Johnson's attempt to run over the officer began a pursuit resulting in Mr. Johnson's car being spike stripped two times and ultimately being stopped because of a PIT-Police Intervention Technique being used. After Mr. Johnson's vehicle was stopped, he ran from the scene into heavy blackberries in the area of NE Brookwood Pkwy. And NE Veterans Dr.. Hillsboro officers pursued Mr. Johnson on foot into the blackberries receiving injuries to themselves.
Mr. Johnson was captured a short time later by Hillsboro Police K-9 Tuco and lodged at the Washington County Jail on charges of: 1. Unlawful use of a motor vehicle 2. Attempted Assault-III 3. Attempt to elude 4. Theft-I 5. Criminal mischief-I 6. Reckless driving 7. Reckless endangerment 8. DUII and 9. Attempted assault-II.
