Hillsboro Police Detectives Make Arrest In A 22-year Old Missing Person Case.

On May 3, 2021, Kenneth Todd Gipson was arrested for the murder of Anthony “Tony” Kennedy, a Hillsboro resident who was last seen alive in July 1999. Kennedy was 22 years old at the time of his disappearance. Kennedy’s vehicle was also reported missing and was later found abandoned in a parking lot near his residence. Gipson and Kennedy were roommates at the time of Kennedy’s disappearance.
The Hillsboro Police Department began their reexamination of Kennedy’s missing persons case in 2018. After an exhaustive investigation, the case was presented to a Washington County Grand Jury, who indicted Gipson for Murder in the First Degree. The Hillsboro Police Department and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department contacted Gipson at his residence in Del Rio, Tennessee, where he was taken into custody. Gipson is currently being held at the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department jail, awaiting extradition to Oregon. His anticipated arrival to the Washington County Jail is June 5, 2021 and he is expected to be arraigned on June 7.
