Washington County Sheriff's Office and Hillsboro Police officers arrested Patricia Clayton, 77, of North Plains for two counts of failure to perform duties of a driver when persons are injured after her indictment by a Washington County grand jury. Clayton was involved in a hit-and-run crash on January 19 at Northeast Cornell Road and Northeast 17th Avenue in which two pedestrians were struck. One pedestrian, Marjorie Averill, was killed, and the other, Timothy Mahan, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation determined Clayton to be the driver. She was lodged in the Washington County Jail.
