News Release
burglary/stolen vehicle/warning shot fired - 11/03/17

On 11/2/2017 at 8:30 p.m. the Hillsboro police department responded to a cold burglary at 6890 E. Main.

During this incident the home owner returned home to find that the home was burglarized. The suspect entered the residence by shattering the windows on two rear doors.

In this incident, a 1969 Mercedes Benz 280 SLK was stolen. It is unknown at this time if any other property was taken.

The home owner had covered both rear doors window with plastic.

At 3:20 a.m. this morning the Hillsboro police department responded back to the resident for a burglary in progress call.

The homeowner had hear noises coming from the back of the house. Based on the earlier incident, he armed himself with a handgun. As the home owner began to walk towards the kitchen area he observed a white male suspect attempting to cut through plastic sheathing that was covering the kitchen door window. The home owner had fired a warning shot at the suspect. The suspect fled the residence and ran through the wetlands located behind the home.

A K9 track was initiated. Unfortunately the suspect was not found. The suspect was described a white male adult, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothing.

At his point we are unable to confirm that the two incidents are related.

The stolen Mercedes was recovered early this morning. At 6:04 a.m. we received a call from the resident at 454 SE 72nd Ave. They stated that the mentioned vehicle was park near the home.

They had initially observed the vehicle parked out on the 72nd street prior to retiring for the night. They had mentioned that they took notice of the vehicle because it was a classic Mercedes Benz and, that the vehicle was a convertible with its top down. As they watched the news this early morning, they learned that the vehicle had been stolen.
