At approximately 6:40 a.m. multiple calls to 911 reported dark plumes of smoke coming from the back of a home in the 1400 block of NE 12th Avenue in Hillsboro. The smoke plume could be seen from the Hillsboro Airport. Firefighters from Station 5 arrived to find a single-story house with active fire and smoke. Firefighters from Engine 5 immediately entered the home to fight the fire. Firefighters from Truck 5 made contact with the residents of the home and confirmed that everyone was out safely then worked to safely secure utilities. The incident was upgraded to a first-alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire inside the main part of the house and found that it had extended into the attic. Crews transitioned and fully knocked down the fire. Crews then searched for remaining fire hot spots, clearing smoke from the home and salvaging belongings.
No injuries were reported. A Hillsboro Fire chaplain responded to provide support to two adults living in the home. Both community members were displaced and received assistance from the American Red Cross.
A Hillsboro Fire Investigator responded to the incident and a fire investigation is ongoing. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Supporting agencies responding to the fire include Metro West Ambulance, American Red Cross, NW Natural, and Portland General Electric.
