For his many and unfailing contributions to the Hillsboro Fire Department, Engineer Dan King has been selected by his peers as 2017 Firefighter of the Year. Dan, who joined the department in 2010, will be recognized for this honor at the Hillsboro American Legion Post 6 Annual Firefighter Appreciation Dinner on March 13th.
"Dan King exemplifies professionalism and excellence in his service to the community as a Hillsboro firefighter. He inspires us through his commitment to continuously helping others and is well deserving of the award", said Hillsboro Fire Chief David Downey.
In addition to his firefighting duties, Dan who is also an EMT-Paramedic has spent the last six months working with his fellow crew members in training three of HFDs seven recruits. Additionally, he has served as member of the department's Apparatus Committee in charge of tools/equipment/hose and outfitting of Engine 6.
For the past few years Dan has been involved with the Hillsboro Firefighters Random Acts non-profit organization where he currently serves as Vice President. Dan continues his outreach to the Hillsboro community by serving as the point person for the Fire Department's Toy & Joy program.
