Family of Four Displaced by Monday Night Fire (Photo) - 02/20/18

At 9:40 Monday night Hillsboro Fire Department Station 2 was dispatched to a residential fire on the 6000 block of SE Ariel Street. Additional fire units were soon added to the response as the 9-1-1 dispatcher received additional information from the caller.

Firefighters on Engine 2 and Engine 6 arrived to find an exterior fire on the back of the two story home. Although the fire was mostly outside, firefighters found a moderate amount of smoke inside the house. The exterior fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters then turned their attention to the attic and the crawl space under the house to insure that any fire in those areas was out.

Four adults live in the house, only one was home at the time of the fire. Upon noticing smoke, she evacuated through the front door and called 9-1-1 once she was safely outside.

A Hillsboro Fire Investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimate is available at this time.

Eighteen Hillsboro Fire personnel with the assistance of firefighters from TVF&R Engine 62 responded to the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported. A resident of the home next door to the fire complained of breathing difficulty due to smoke and was treated at the scene by Metro West Ambulance EMTs.

The Hillsboro Fire Department reminds homeowners to evacuate at the first indication of smoke or fire, and call 9-1-1 once safely outside.
