Two Safely Escape Hillsboro Trailer Fire (Photo) - 12/11/17

Just after 8:30 Monday night Hillsboro Fire Station 1 was dispatched to a residential fire at 633 SE Maple Avenue.

Firefighters on Engine 1 arrived to find a single wide trailer with heavy smoke and flames breaching the windows and door. Within 10 minutes of their arrival, firefighters had the fire extinguished and were ventilating smoke from the structure. Unfortunately, the trailer is a total loss.

Fire investigators learned that the owners were home when the fire break out. The husband reported that he was alerted to the fire by the sound of the smoke alarm in the hallway between the living room and the bedroom. When he went to investigate he found active fire in the bedroom. He attempted to put the fire out by smothering it with a blanket. His efforts were unsuccessful and he received minor burns to his hands in the process. Metro West Ambulance treated him of the scene, he was not transported for further treatment.
Red Cross has been contacted to assist the man and his wife with temporary housing.

A total of 19 firefighters responded to the fire. No firefighters were injured.
The Hillsboro Fire Investigator is currently working through the trailer interior to determine the cause of the fire.

Hillsboro Fire reminds everyone to make sure that smoke alarms are installed and working.
