More than 140 Girl Scouts will gather for STEM Day in Medford – Saturday, April 27, 2019, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
WHO: More than 140 Girl Scouts, family members and friends, troop leaders, volunteers, STEM professionals
WHAT: The first event of its kind for Girl Scouts in Medford, Girl Scout STEM Day is an expo-style event featuring STEM opportunities and career exploration for Southern Oregon Girl Scouts. Girl Scout STEM Day is sponsored by First Tech Federal Credit Union. Girls will experience a variety of hands-on opportunities and presentations, including:
- Meet-and-greets with Wildlife Safari’s animal ambassadors, including live reptiles, mammals and birds
- Demonstrations of 3D printing and design with iPrint 3D Studio
- Build a pocket solar system and learn about telescopes with Southern Oregon Skywatchers
- Observation of a live bee hive with Southern Oregon Beekeepers Association
- Participation in an eSports activity (competitive video gaming) hosted by Black Rocket
- Exploration of an inflatable cave with Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve
- Discovery of STEM careers with women from the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and other STEM-related fields, and discovery of collegiate STEM opportunities with Rogue Community College and Southern Oregon University
