In partnership with Digital Promise, Verizon Innovative Learning welcomes two schools in the Gresham-Barlow School District for the 2020-2021 school year

WHAT: On Thursday September 10, two Portland-area middle schools will join the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative, a program that fosters digital inclusion by ensuring the benefits of technology are realized by all.  It’s a key part of our goal to help move the world forward for all through our Citizen Verizon plan. Verizon, through the Verizon Innovative Learning program and in partnership with Digital Promise, provides free technology, free internet access, and experiential learning experiences to help give under-resourced students the technology, education, and opportunity they deserve. Being part of the program will keep students connected while helping to facilitate distance learning from home, the classroom, or in blended learning models.

Powered by a next-gen, technology-infused education, Verizon Innovative Learning is giving more students and more schools the ability to achieve, learn and create more. Teachers in Verizon Innovative Learning have reported that the initiative allows for more individualized instruction and have experienced enhanced student engagement. Students are reporting that having technology helps facilitate assignments and improve their confidence in the things they can do.* Since 2012, the Verizon Innovative Learning program has provided over $535 million in market value to support STEM education, helping students enhance their learning by infusing technology into the school’s curriculum.

The market value of the Verizon Innovative Learning program’s donation in the Gresham-Barlow School District is on average over $1.8 million per school, including 1,300 devices.

Dexter McCarty Middle School and Clear Creek Middle School are among 110 new schools joining Verizon Innovative Learning for the 2020-21 school year, bringing the program to over 260 middle schools nationwide. To celebrate Gresham-Barlow School District’s participation in the program, a kick-off initiative will provide local middle school students with their own tablets.
