Friends of the Carpenter to Utilize Former Day Center Space to Serve Vulnerable Populations - 11/21/17

Vancouver, WA -- Friends of the Carpenter (FOC) will explore how to best utilize the current small day center space in the north end of their building on W. 20th St. to address some other critical need in the community. This change comes as a result of plans by the City of Vancouver to purchase the former Department of Fish and Wildlife building on Grand Blvd. to house an expanded day center program in early 2018.

"A permanent day center, with adequate space for resources such as access to shower and laundry facilities, will be a wonderful and much-needed addition to our continuum of care in Clark County. However, it does mean that the current day center operated by Share will likely relocate in early 2018," said Tom Iberle, executive director. "At Friends of the Carpenter, we look at this as a door opening to a new and exciting chapter for us to stay true to our mission of the past 20 years by identifying under-served populations who are in need of the services we provide."

The FOC Board of Directors will work with staff and key volunteers to explore how best to make use of the space currently occupied by the Share Day Center once it moves to the new location. That could include leasing the space to another promising ministry or organization, or expanding our program in a way that aligns with our Strategic Plan. More information will become available on the FOC website www.friendsofthecarpenter.org

About Friends of the Carpenter
Friends of the Carpenter was incorporated in Vancouver, WA in Oct. 1998 and began as a vision of a practical outreach of simple welcome and personal interaction between volunteers from the church and people living in poverty. Since the beginning, regular contact has been made with vulnerable members of our community through woodworking events scheduled around the area and which, today, are mostly held at FOC's Friendship Center. Our mission: Friends of the Carpenter is a non-profit, faith-based day facility that provides safety, structure and purpose for vulnerable members of our community.
