2 Alarm Brush Fire Burns 15 Acres (Photo) -09/01/22
This afternoon at 2:47pm, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a reported brush fire on SW Spring Hill Road near Sandstrom Road, in rural Washington County. Crews arrived shortly after to find fire burning on both sides of Spring Hill Road. One side was a ditch line/hill close to a house and the other was a large recently cut wheat field. As firefighters arrived on scene, they began to fight the growing fire. They quickly extinguished the fire near the house and concentrated all efforts of the burning field. A moderate wind allowed the fire to spread quickly in the dry field, additional resources were needed and incident command called for a 2nd Alarm.
It took firefighter over an hour to stop the forward progress of the fire. They received help from a neighboring farmer, they “disked” the field with farm equipment. This created a dirt area around the fire, essentially burning itself out.
Thankfully no structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire is estimated to have burn approximately 15 acres of land. At this time, all roadways are back open.
Forest Grove Fire & Rescue was assisted on scene by Cornelius Fire Department, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, Banks Fire District, Oregon Office of the State Fire Marshal, Gaston Fire District, Yamhill Fire District, Metro West Ambulance, Forest Grove Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police.
