[VANCOUVER, WA.] (September 7) – Evergreen Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the homes for the Purisevic and Ojeda-Aquino families. Sakib and Mahira Purisevic and Reynaldo Ojeda and Ana Aquino look forward to the stability and safety of homeownership.
Mahira and Sakib Pursevic have always fought hard for their family. They left their native country of Bosnia shortly after the country was torn apart by war in 1996. A few years later their first child, Amina (14), was born. After her birth, Mahira and Sakib discovered that she had cerebral palsy, a disorder that impairs the brain and nervous system functions. Amina is bound to a wheelchair and relies on her parents for all mobility and care.
“This house will be a blessing for our family and will be a huge improvement on Amina’s quality of life. We are so excited to be partnering with Habitat.” said Mahira.
Reynaldo Ojeda and Ana Aquino are the parents of 4 girls, Josie (14), Julia (12), Bryanna (10), and Leslie (6). The family of six currently live in a small, 2-bedroom trailer home that is in significant disrepair. Reynaldo not only attempts to repair his unit, but lends his time and materials to his neighbors who also reside in aging trailer homes. Reynaldo managed to build a small room for himself and Ana by enclosing a portion of the kitchen so that his 4 daughters could split up amongst the two bedrooms. The Ojeda-Aquino Family looks most forward to having space to do their homework, more closet space so that all 6 of them do not need to share one closet, and a place to grow a garden.
These two homes were made possible thanks to generous sponsors, Burdette Beckmann Inc. and Office Ally. Thanks to their financial contribution, the Purisevic and Ojeda-Aquino families’ dreams of homeownership will become a reality. In addition to the donation, staff at both Burdette Beckmann and Office Ally volunteered in the construction of the families’ homes.
“For many years, BBI has been blessed with the opportunity to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. Giving back to our community is an integral pillar of our business and, without it, we wouldn’t feel complete.” Says Robert Taylor Jr., CEO. “We are so proud of all our team members for taking the initiative to be so community driven and focused on giving back and we can’t wait for work we will do in the future with Habitat.”
“Office Ally is honored to be able to give back to the community and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of something that will make a huge difference in this family’s life. Welcome home, Ojeda-Aquino Family!” said the Office Ally Team.
These homes also couldn’t have been built without the tireless dedication of our volunteers. We had 569 volunteers contribute 9,052 hours in total to both homes.
Join us in celebration on Sunday, September 16 at 2 pm, at 1110 SE 77th Ct Vancouver, WA 98664.
