What: Home Dedication

[VANCOUVER, WA.] (February 20) -- Evergreen Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the homes for the Palmore and Hauxhurst families. Dakota Palmore and Tiffany Hauxhurst look forward to the stability and safety of homeownership. Growing up, Dakota and Tiffany both faced challenges with housing insecurity which negatively affected them. "Homeownership means stability for me and my boys." Says Tiffany. "When I was growing up things were very unstable and not knowing from month to month if we were going to have to move caused a lot of stress and anxiety for me. Even now as an adult I struggle with those feeling, I never want my kids to experience that."
Both single mothers look forward to providing their boys with the strength and stability that comes with an affordable home where they no longer have to move around. "I have never lived in a stable home and my dream is to partner with Habitat to build a home for me and my family. A place we can call home and live in for years and years." Said Dakota.
The two homes were built in collaboration with Evergreen Public Schools, Mt. View High School, and Evergreen High School. Students at both schools enrolled in the Geometry in Construction program earn their math credit while getting hands-on building experience. The class is taught through College Careers and Technical Education for those students who want to learn about the trades. The students worked on their job site at each school, much like regular volunteers work on the traditional job site. These homes couldn't have been built without the support of Evergreen Public Schools and the tireless dedication of the students in the program.
These homes were also made possible thanks to the financial support of Vancouver Energy Community Fund.
Vancouver Grocery Outlet will be on hand to fill the cupboards of both homes with move in necessities. Friends and family, volunteers, EHFH board, and staff will gather to celebrate all the hard work and the beginning of the homeowner journey for the families.
