Springfield, Oregon – At approximately 1:15p.m., Eugene Springfield Fire responded with neighboring fire departments and law enforcement partners to a report of a fast-moving vegetation fire in the area of Jasper Rd. and Mt. Vernon Rd. The wind-driven fire quickly consumed several acres of ground fuels and was advancing towards the Mt. Vernon neighborhood in Springfield.  Ten Eugene Springfield Fire apparatus were assisted by Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire, Lowell Fire, Oregon Department of Forestry, Coburg Fire, Mohawk Fire, and Upper McKenzie Fire to stop forward progress on the fire before it reached the Mt. Vernon neighborhood. Springfield Police, Oregon State Police and Lane County Sheriff performed immediate evacuation on the residences that were threatened.  The fire is currently under control, and crews will be there throughout the evening to extinguish hot spots  and monitor conditions.
