Two Alarm West Eugene Fire Damages Businesses (Photo) - 08/09/26
EUGENE, Ore. August 9, 2026. Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a second alarm fire that destroyed a vacant home and damaged several businesses in West Eugene Sunday evening.
Just before 6:30 p.m., firefighters were called to a report of a possible house fire in the area of Highway 99 and Barger Drive. Responding crews could see a large column of smoke from the area and arrived to find a fully involved house fire on the east side of the railroad tracks, behind Emerald Pool and Patio in the 1800 block of Highway 99.
Firefighters were met with a large volume of fire that had spread from the property into overgrown blackberries and other dry vegetation between the railroad tracks and businesses along Highway 99. Due to challenging access and the advancing fire, incident commanders called for a second alarm, bringing additional crews to the scene. Two additional engine companies and support staff were also requested.
The fire completely destroyed a vacant home on the east side of the railroad tracks that appeared to be used for storage and caused varying degrees of damage to three businesses along Highway 99.
Emerald Pool and Patio sustained fire damage to the rear and roof of the building, as well as exterior displays and vegetation. A nearby storage building also sustained exterior damage. Firefighters were able to prevent fire from making it to the interior of the buildings. A neighboring car dealership sustained fire damage to the exterior of its office building, while a small engine repair business to the south sustained damage to grass, old lawnmowers and other items outside the business.
No injuries were reported.
This was the third fire in the Eugene area along railroad tracks within a 12-hour period. One near Franklin and Walnut around 7:30 AM and another in Lane Fire Authority’s jurisdiction on Hwy 99 N of Beltline.
In all, eight engine companies, two truck companies, one ambulance, support staff and additional command level personnel responded to the incident.
Highway 99 was shut down for a period of time to allow firefighters to access additional water supply.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by ESF Deputy Fire Marshals.
