One Rescued From the Willamette in Springfield (Photo) - 08/03/24

Springfield, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire rescued one from the low head dam in Glenwood Saturday afternoon.  Firefighters were notified of one person trapped on the low head dam on the Willamette River near the D Street landing at 4:13 PM on August 3rd.  Boat 5 staffed by Engine 5’s crew at the Gateway station arrived quickly and was backed up by Boat 6 staffed by Ladder 6’s crew.  The individual was successfully rescued without incident.

As with most water rescues performed by ESF, this individual was floating the river in a craft not designed for swift water and they were not wearing a life jacket.  There are numerous dangerous obstacles on our rivers both natural and manmade. Please float the river in appropriate craft and wear a life jacket.
