Friday is the normal training day for Eugene Springfield Fire’s water rescue team members. Today, crews trained at a local hazard spot, the low head dam on the Willamette River near the I-5 bridge. Team members were able to rotate through training sessions on skills involving foot entrapment and rescue scenarios involving the low head dam. The department is in the process over the next couple of months of training eight new team members that have joined due to retirements. The Eugene Springfield Fire Department responds to approximately 75 water rescue calls yearly on local area waterways.
