Kiona-Benton City School Board Places Replacement EP&O Levy On November Ballot - 09/15/26

BENTON CITY, WA — With the November 3 election approaching, Kiona-Benton City School District is reminding voters that the School Board approved a resolution in July placing a two-year Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Replacement Levy on the ballot.

 

EP&O levies are approved by local voters and provide funding for educational programs and services that are not fully funded by the state. In Kiona-Benton City School District, levy dollars support programs and services including athletics, the arts, extracurricular activities, student clubs, advanced courses, technology support, smaller class sizes, safety and security, and non-funded or under-funded staff positions such as teachers, counselors, nurses and paraeducators.

 

All levy dollars remain local and are used to support Ki-Be students and schools.

 

If approved, the two-year replacement levy would collect $2,208,341 in 2027 and $2,318,758 in 2028. The estimated levy rate is $1.30 per $1,000 of assessed property value in both years.

 

Passage of the levy would also make the district eligible for an estimated $803,841 in state Local Effort Assistance (LEA) funding over the two-year period. LEA is state funding provided to eligible school districts based in part on locally approved levy funding. The district would not receive those funds if the levy is not approved.

 

Combined, the local levy and estimated LEA funding would make up nearly 11 percent of the district’s budget.
