Candy Mountain Academy Opening Fall 2022 -04/11/22

PASCO, WA – ESD 123 will open a new kind of school that addresses a vital need for behavioral health and social emotional education across our region.  Renovations to the existing building at 120 South 5th Street in Pasco are underway, where Candy Mountain Academy will open its doors to students this fall.

Candy Mountain Academy is the first school of its kind in Eastern Washington, with only one other behavior school like it in the Pacific Northwest. The Academy will provide a supportive learning environment for students in 1st-8th grade with Individualized Educational Programs (or IEPs). Students are taught to build their social and emotional skills while being challenged academically in a safe and welcoming environment that helps prepare them for a successful transition back into their neighborhood school.

The academy will be led by Chuck Fleming, former Director of the Olympic Academy upon which the school is modeled.  During its first operating school year in 2022-2023, the Academy anticipates an enrollment of approximately 12 students. Parents and guardians first work with their home school district’s special education department to be considered for the Academy.
