The Arts Get a Boost with a Creative Start Grant and ESD 123 - 06/04/21

Pasco, WA – More funding for art is on its way, offering young learners more opportunities to explore their creativity. The Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) recently informed ESD 123 the the agency has been approved for a $25,000 Creative Start grant in 2022!

The grant objectives are:

  • Professional learning opportunities for early learning educators
  • Collaborative practices between schools, arts organizations, teaching artists, and families
  • Projects that increased creative, academic, and social emotional growth for early learners
  • Innovative professional growth for early learning educators

With the previous grant, ESD 123 partnered with local artists to showcase their medium, talent, and culture through a video series aimed at young viewers. These videos offered a wonderful creative, academic, and social-emotional growth opportunity for early learners. The 2022 Creative Start grant will allow ESD 123 to continue building its artist library as well as increase professional development opportunities on incorporating art in learning for staff, families, and other educators.

According to Lisa Brouwer-Thompson, ECEAP Administrator, “These art grants have injected our staff and students with a new energy around teaching and learning this year. Learning through art can be a lot of ‘fun’ with intentional plans and practices put into action. The additional perk was building art community partnerships and parent engagement.”

You can experience a taste of what transpired in our 38 classrooms by visiting the region’s first ever ECEAP Virtual Art Show at For additional information on ECEAP and its arts program, please contact Lisa at">
