Regional High School Art Show Reception Features Artists' Panel, Recognizes Student Artists -03/15/19

Student artists from throughout Southwest Washington will be recognized for their outstanding artwork at the 2019 Southwest Washington Regional High School Art Show, hosted by Educational Service District 112.

Now it its 46th year, the art show is one of the few opportunities for area art students to receive recognition and exposure for their work.  The art show received 229 entries this year from high school students from throughout the six-county region of Southwest Washington.  The artwork is on display through March 27, at ESD 112, 2500 NE 65th Avenue in Vancouver.

The awards reception will take place Tuesday, March 19, 5-7 p.m., at ESD 112. The Gallery Walk will open at 5 p.m. and an Artist’s Panel and Awards Ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.

A panel of professionals working in art-related careers will share their expertise with students and answer questions about their work. Panelists include:

Heidi Jo Curley, Painter, Camas, WA

Heidi Jo Curley began painting with no formal training as a way to work through her grief after the sudden passing of her husband in 2010. She continued to use her art as a form of healing when her mother passed in 2016. She specializes in acrylics and mixed media on wood canvas and paints mostly with her fingers. In December she opened her own studio in Downtown Camas.

Alex Tysowsky, Partner and Animation Director, Hinge Studio

Alex Tysowsky brings a deep understanding of artistic decisions as well as technical considerations, and specializes in creating efficient techniques and workflows. He has spent nearly twenty years in the film industry, creating stunning animation for over a dozen features, including the Academy Award-winning projects Spider-Man 2 and The Matrix.

Tyler Kenworthy, Art Director, Hinge Studio

As Art Director, Tyler Kenworthy’s focus is on developing art styles and providing art direction for commercial, film, television and various internal projects. He specializes in Traditional and Digital Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design and Conceptual Design.  He studied Fine Arts at Washington State University and The Art Institute of Portland.

Katie M. Berggren, Painter, Vancouver, WA

As an internationally collected artist, Katie m. Berggren, focuses exclusively on painting and motherhood—everyday. With two sons, a busy online gallery and store, and commissions from around the world, she is grateful for her career as an artist and mother. Katie has been cited as the #1 Motherhood Artist in America.

Seventeen pieces of art will receive regional awards and will compete against entries from around Washington state in the Annual State Superintendent of Public Instruction Art Show in Olympia in April.  Several student artists also received scholarship awards from Central Washington University.
