Two Subjects Arrested In Early Morning Burglary Of Eagle Point Purple Parrot - 07/23/26

Arrestee #1:

Banes, Kenneth R.  WMA    39 YOA

Resident of Klamath Falls, Or. 

Charges:

  • Burglary in the First Degree
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • Criminal Mischief in the First Degree
  • Theft in the Second Degree
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Probation Violation-Detainer

 

Arrestee #2:

Grinnals, Jennifer L.  WFA, 5'04", 120, Brn, Brn.  37 yoa

Resident of Klamath Falls

Charge:

  • Conspiracy to Commit Burglary in the First Degree.

 

Details:

On 07-23-26, at approximately 5:45 am, the Eagle Point Police Department responded to a business alarm at the Purple Parrot, located at 10546 #D Old Highway 62.  Upon the arrival of the first officer, two subjects were seen in the area.  The officer attempted to stop the individuals, but they fled the area on an electric scooter.  Additional deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to assist and began searching.  Officers quickly confirmed that the business had been burglarized. 

 

While the business was being searched for additional suspects, a perimeter was established.  The investigation included the deployment of an Eagle Point Police Department drone and a Jackson County Sheriff's Office K-9 team, which assisted officers in locating one of the suspects. A short time later, one of the subjects who had fled, Jennifer Grinnals, was located hiding near the Harnish Wayside Park.  Through additional investigation, it was determined the other subject involved was possibly heading to a vehicle located near Hillside Elementary School at the Old Schoolyard Park.  Officers responded to that area and located the male sitting in a vehicle.  The male was taken into custody without further incident. The male was identified as Kenneth Banes from Klamath Falls.  Banes was also determined to currently be on probation out of Klamath Falls for burglary, as well as delivery of a controlled substance, theft, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. His probation officer was later contacted after it was confirmed Banes was the suspect in the burglary.  A detainer was placed on him at that time.  

 

It was later determined that the suspects had driven to Eagle Point from Klamath Falls, Oregon.  Investigators believe Banes entered the business through the roof after attempting to cut the communication lines to the businesses in the complex.  While the male was inside, it is believed he fell through the drop ceiling of the business and injured himself.  He was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Providence Hospital and released.  The male was later lodged at the Jackson County Jail for the above-listed charges. He was also lodged for the previously mentioned probation violation. 

 

Due to the extensive damage to the business and large amount of evidence to collect, the business was closed for several hours while officers processed the scene.  Damage was done to the interior of the business from Banes making entry into the business forcibly, through the roof.  The amount of damage is believed to be well over $1,000.  Because of the extensive crime scene and evidence collection, an Eagle Point Police detective assigned to the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement (MADGE) Team responded to assist. A search warrant was later obtained to check for evidence and possibly missing items from the business inside the vehicle where Banes was located.  Based on the completion of the search, evidence recovered during the investigation is being compared with information from other burglary investigations in the region.  The case is still under investigation, and other agencies are being contacted to review evidence located during this case. 

 

The Eagle Point Police Department appreciates the assistance provided by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Klamath County Community Corrections. The investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence to determine whether the suspects may be connected to additional property crimes in Southern Oregon. Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Eagle Point Police Department. Although the business sustained significant damage, the coordinated response prevented additional property loss and allowed investigators to secure critical evidence.
