Seeking to identify good Samaritan who helped with Hwy. 18 crash on Saturday, November 16 - 12/16/24

The Eugene Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a good Samaritan who assisted with a traffic crash on Highway 18 near the Willamina Junction around 11 a.m. on Saturday November 16. The good Samaritan is known to us only as "Mikayla" (unknown spelling) and she is an ER nurse.

On November 16, EPD Deputy Chief Shawn Adams was returning from the Oregon Peace Officer Association conference when he came upon a serious head-on crash.  DC Adams was the first on scene and began to provide emergency aid to one of the drivers. D.C. Adams was almost immediately assisted by Mikayla.  According to D.C. Adams, "As we began the care for the driver there is a moment of conversation between Mikayla and I to determine who has the higher level of training and in the best position to provide the primary care.  This is how I learned Mikalya's name and that she is an ER Nurse.”

D.C. Adams continued on to say "Mikalya was amazing.  I believe she may have saved this driver's life.  At a minimum I know her efforts positively impacted this driver and she needs to be recognized for the skill, effort and compassion she displayed for the 30 or so minutes we were inside this crushed Prius  while firefighters were cutting the roof off the car.”  Unfortunately, Mikayla left the scene and was not identified by the emergency responders.

We ask for any assistance in identifying Mikayla so she may be recognized for her work.  If you have any information please e-mail Deputy Chief Adams at sadams@euguene-or.gov
