Dougy Center host virtual Community Candle Lighting in recognition of Children's Grief Awareness Week. All are welcome. - 11/16/20

In recognition of Children’s Grief Awareness Week, The Dougy Center is hosting a free, virtual Community Candle Lighting open to the public. Join The Dougy Center to light a virtual candle in memory of someone in your life who has died. The event will stream live through The Dougy Center’s Facebook page, facebook.com/thedougycenter, Friday, November 20, at 5:30 p.m.

“Every year, we host a similar event with the families who attend Dougy Center grief support groups,” said Brennan Wood, The Dougy Center’s Executive Director. “With all that is going on in our community and the world, we are extending the invitation to everyone. It’s a way for us to honor the people in our lives who have died, and for those of us who are grieving to know that we are not alone.”

The Dougy Center, based in Portland, provides support in a safe place where children, teens, young adults and their families who are grieving before and after a death can share their experiences. Locally, The Dougy Center serves over 500 children and adult family members each month through virtual peer support groups. The Dougy Center also provides information and training locally, nationally, and internationally to individuals and organizations seeking to assist children in grief. The Dougy Center does not charge for its support services, and relies solely on the generous donations of individuals, corporations and foundations. To learn more, visit www.dougy.org.
